And dear memories from my childhood include watching the British cartoons Danger Mouse and Bananaman which ran on Nickelodeon back when Nick had good programming.
If you knew me back in high school, you might remember that I was a monarchist. I didn't think we should have broken off from Great Britain and I wasn't a big fan of democracy. Partly this was because even stupid people get a vote in a democracy and I really hated the idea of idiots having a say. I'm over that now. (I do still think our Revolution was misguided from a Christian standpoint). But part of the reason for my views at the time was my absolute sense of Anglophilia, and that hasn't changed. For a fun departure from my more serious entries of late, here are some of the things I love about British culture. The Lit Plus: Kipling, Tennyson, Byron, Keats, Fleming, Blake, Carroll, Milne The History Makers The Music Plus: The Clash, The Hollies, The Who, The Kinks, Pink Floyd, Mott the Hoople, Queen, The Police, Def Leppard, Madness, OMD, The Cure, Duran Duran, Adele The Comedies Plus: Fawlty Towers, A Bit of Fry and Laurie, Black Books, The Mighty Boosh, French and Saunders, Absolutely Fabulous, Little Britain, I'm Alan Partridge, The Office The Dramas and Mysteries Plus: Midsomer Murders, North and South, Marple, Inspector Lewis, Endeavor, Sherlock Holmes (Jeremy Brett), Robin Hood, Prime Suspect, Rosemary and Thyme, Sharpe The Blokes Plus: Clive Owen, James McAvoy, Ralph Fiennes, Gerard Butler, Colin Firth, Robert Carlyle, Timothy Dalton, Ioan Gruffudd, John Hannah, Jason Isaacs, Damian Lewis, Gary Oldman, Michael Palin, Michael Sheen And More... One of my favorite artists is Lawrence Alma-Tadema, who was British. I first discovered his work in a book called King Solomon's Garden; Poems and Art Inspired by the Old Testament. It had his "The Finding of Moses" in it and I fell in love. One day when I'm obscenely wealthy I will buy the original from its owner. And dear memories from my childhood include watching the British cartoons Danger Mouse and Bananaman which ran on Nickelodeon back when Nick had good programming. And, of course, I'm a big fan of the language!

I'm surprised you omitted the Scarlet Pimpernel. However, in Toadacious' defense, when the "Brits" needed a tennis star they "borrowed" Andy Murray from Scotland and when they needed a great and flamboyant actor, they reached for Richard Burton from Wales. Also, Toad could have added a #6 to the list: All Brit dentists.
