After our brief respite, we went to the National Gallery. I asked at the front desk if they had any Alma-Tademas. They do not, which surprises me because he was English (well, Dutch, but lived in England). I did a quick sweep of the galleries while Kelly waited and then we exited onto Trafalgar Square so I could get a pic of good ol’ Horatio Nelson. We walked to Buckingham Palace, but it was grey out so my pics weren’t great.
We returned to the apartment for about an hour or so to nosh and rest. Then in the evening we walked down the block to Brompton Cemetery. Legend has it that Beatrix Potter got her character names from graves here. I love cemeteries. I’m not morbid, though I do appreciate a good memento mori, it’s just that they are serene and usually very green and beautiful. There is something about the juxtaposition of stone tombstones and greenery that hits me in a primal way as being gorgeous. I got some great pics, including some with ravens on stone crosses. It was a great way to end the day.
